Socrates Xanthopoulos was born in 1875 in the village of Sigi (near Mοudania) in Asia Minor. He was a prominent figure in the agricultural sector of Greece. He studied at the Agricultural School of Marseille and worked as the director of the Agricultural Station in Patras, where he contributed to the development and modernization of Greek agriculture. He was also active in the public affairs of Patras, leaving a significant legacy in the agricultural field. He died of cardiac arrest in Patras on the day Italian war planes started bombing.
